LONDON, Ohio — The Madison County Board of Commissioners on May 26 approved a series of resolutions including a contract for preliminary design of a new Sheriff’s building and 911 Dispatch Center, funding for a DARE officer vehicle, and applications for state transportation grants.

The board voted unanimously to approve a proposal from Stark Conway Architects for preliminary design services related to the new Sheriff’s Office and 911 Dispatch Center. County Executive Britt Wallace said the county is scheduled to close on the property June 3 at 10 a.m.

“We need to move into preliminary design in order to proceed with our application for the USDA Rural Development Grant as well as the accompanying loan if you decide to go with that,” Wallace said.

Commissioners also approved resolutions authorizing applications for two Ohio Department of Transportation grants: one for replacement of an existing underground storage tank with an 8,000-gallon AV gas fuel tank, and another for airport improvements.

Other approved items included payment of invoices for the Madison County Auditor, publication of a public hearing notice for the 2026 Community Development Block Grant allocation and critical infrastructure application, a transfer of funds to reimburse janitorial salary and expenses, and an increase in appropriations to the Tri-County Regional Jail contract service expense line.

The board approved a resolution increasing appropriations and transferring funds for the purchase of a vehicle for the county DARE officer, as well as budget adjustments within the 2026 gas tax budget.

Commissioners also accepted the 2020-2025 annual report for the Madison County Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division.

Minutes from the previous week’s meeting were approved unanimously.

During the meeting, a bid opening was held for the Village of Out-Stairing Sewer Improvement Project. The low bid came in at $678,807.75, exceeding the engineer’s estimate of $379,150. Staff said they would follow up with the engineer to review the bids and determine next steps.

No public comments or contentious issues were recorded during the session.

Commissioners Ronnie Shaver, Dr. Zekan, and Britt Wallace voted on the minutes. Commissioners Shay, Sneegas, and Wallace voted on all other resolutions.
